Acetyl-L-Carnitine Its Uses and Side Effects

We carry the full line of NeuroScience supplements at NeuroFormulas including Avipaxin NeuroScience and more.

Acetyl L-Carnitine also known as acetyl levocarnitine is a very useful nutrient from our body that turns fatty acids into metabolic energy. It transforms unwanted fats to useful energy. It is nowadays used as a dietary supplement that allows the user to lose weight when conducted with proper physical exercise. This shows that ALC plays an important role in energy production. Carnitine is mostly found on red meats such as beef and lamb, it has high concentration on dairy products and low concentration even none in fruits and vegetables that’s why strict vegetarians has no accumulation of ALC from the type of foods they eat, resulting to deficiencies such as cramping and muscle fatigues. It is advisable for vegetarians to synthesize enough amount of L-carnitine to avoid further carnitine deficiency.

These days, ACR is such a useful supplement but like other substances it also has proven side effects. These include fever, increase in blood pressure, faster heartbeats and even diarrhea when taken with large amounts. It can also cause nausea and vomiting, confusion, depression and aggressiveness. However when used with professional medication it may benefit a patient well. ACR improves mental performance, a mind enhancer, and enhances cellular energy in the brain because of its positive effects. Study shows it also contributes as an anti-aging because it helps the body to slow the effects of aging. It also prevents cataracts and reduces depression symptoms.

Acetyl L- Carnitine is primarily used for heart diseases. Certain studies show that it can be taken with regular treatment for angina, (severe chest pain caused by lo supply of blood and oxygen to the heart) to reduce medication needs.  When used with regular therapy, it will lower mortality rates after a heart attack.

Acetyl L- Carnitine may be useful for medical purposes but a person should not self-treat any serious medical illness nor use it as a drug substitute.
