Can I substitute foods from one food group for another?

Usually not, as every meals group has particular traits. Simply because there are a few similarities, you might sometimes substitute the dairy group to get a fruit group and vice versa. You might also substitute two servings oil for one serving nuts, and vegetarians might want to substitute legumes for animal protein.
