Epinephrine helps Ease Allergic Reactions

Epinephrine helps Ease Allergic Reactions

Have you ever experienced sudden sneezing when smelling a flower or itching and rashes after eating a meal of chicken and eggs? This may be because of your body responding to an allergen, or an allergic reaction.

An allergic reaction is the body's way to counter an unwanted visitor. When the body senses a foreign substance in the body knows as antigens, the natural soldiers of the body known as the immune system is activated to protect the body from what it perceives to be harmful agents. The overreaction of the immune system to undamaging substances is called an allergic reaction.

This neurotransmitter is related to Calm PRT, Kavinace, AdreCor, Balance D, and ExcitaPlus.

Allergens may be anything and everything that surrounds the human being. Some common allergens are pollen, dust, food, insect bites and venoms, viruses, bacteria and medications. All of this may cause an allergic reaction depending on how the immune system of a person reacts to the entering of these substances.

An allergic reaction may bring about minor symptoms like a runny nose, itching, rashes, sniffles and a cough. But for some patients, the reaction to allergens is much more severe. The allergens may cause inflammation and restriction of the airways, thus blocking the air passageways. This reaction is known as an anaphylactic shock. Anaphylactic shock is a serious condition that may lead to death if not treated urgently.

Epinephrine or adrenaline shots may be administered to help ease allergic reactions. These are hormones that are readily produced by the adrenal gland. These hormones are responsible for the fight or flight response of the body to certain situations that require the body to run or face the situation. Physiologically, epinephrine or adrenaline dilates the lung and air passages of the body thus increasing air and oxygen inflow to the body. It is also responsible for increasing blood pressure and distributing more oxygen to body tissues including muscles. Being a fast-acting neurotransmitter, introducing epinephrine to the body greatly aids in reducing the effects of an allergic reaction especially the restriction of the air passageways.
