How is Iodine Used

The word Iodine is Greek and means violet or purple, and there are many different forms of this compound. Iodine is used to help doctors prepare their patients for x-rays, for example. Iodine's are used for thyroid health, for breast health, for skin and other types of repair - its even used in breast health.  According to Wikipedia, Iodine deficiency in humans, can cause mental retardation. So, the body needs this halogen to help sustain brain functioning patterns. Iodine is also used as a disinfectant in various forms; when you get a cut or scrape on your person, Iodine is used as a cleaning agent to help keep out bacteria. The careful thing to do is to just dab it on a cut or bruise so as to not cause further irritation.  However, because Iodine is a very strong agent, some people are allergic to its power. It can cause a rash or burn (Betadine compound) on some skin types. If it is swallowed, it can cause hives and, according to the medical profession, Iodine can cause anaphylactic shock in some patients. Always make sure that you consult your physician first before using any forms of this compound regarding your treatment. There are many websites and drug stores where you can get almost any form of Iodine for personal use as a medication.
