How to Get a Good Sleep

Science shows that most people need about 8 hours of sleep at night, but most of us get less than that. For many people, it's a problem of society; for others, a problem of biology. Here are some tips to get that good night's rest: 1) Go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day, even weekends. Try to get rid of your alarm clock and rely on your body's natural rhythm. Eventually you'll get into a routine and you won't have to worry about insomnia or oversleeping. 2) Naps are important as long as you don't sleep too long during the middle of the day. Each sleep cycle is about 90 minutes, so shoot for either a cat nap (around 15 mins) or one full cycle, and no longer. If you don't follow these rules, you'll either wake up groggy and/or have trouble sleeping at night. 3) Avoid caffeine at night. It will make you more jittery and undermine the quality of your sleep, if you ever fall asleep at all. 4) Do some relaxing activities before you get to bed in order to make yourself tired. Try reading or simply relaxing. Avoid computers, TV, and exercise, because they could get you too wound up. 5) Discover your natural rhythms. Some people are morning birds, others are night owls. Whatever your tendency, build your life and your sleeping habits around it.
