Tips for Gastrointestinal Health

Gastrointestinal disorders can put a damper on the happiest of souls. The bloating, cramping, and general malaise leads to irritability and sometimes even a sense of hopelessness. There are things you can do, however, to keep your gastrointestinal system healthy. Everybody hates feeling bloated, and it can happen at any time. To fight that feeling of bloat, reduce your intake of sodium. Salt can be found in many processed foods, and most people get too much of it in their diet. Cut down on your salt intake and you will see a reduction in bloating.  Don’t forget to increase your water intake. This will help your gastrointestinal system remain healthy and help it function at maximum capacity. Also, try to eat more fruits and vegetables, as these will help flush out your system and remove toxins. If constipation is a problem, make sure you are drinking enough of the right fluids. Caffeine acts as a diuretic, so cut down on coffee, tea, and colas. Instead, get used to drinking sparkling water or other non-caffeinated drinks.  Finally, make sure you get your annual check-up. If you are having any problems, let your doctor know. The earlier a serious gastrointestinal problem is caught, the better the outcome.
